When Life Gets Hard

Life is full of hard and concerning times that can mess up our schedules, relationships, and even the feeling of our own self-worth. When things get difficult it’s hard to know how to deal with whatever crisis gets thrown your way. Here is a list of things to do when life gets hard and you don’t know what else to do.

  1. Talk to people about what you’re feeling and let them help you talk through what you’re feeling. It’s best to talk to a wide variety of people to get a wide variety of advice.
  2. Reach for something that is doable so you can be productive and feel good about what you’re doing.
  3. Stay healthy. Don’t forget to eat food that is good for you, to exercise and stay active, and to engage with other people and put yourself out there.
  4. When things get hard it’s best to fight through it, not run away from it. Fighting your problems can give you a sense of confidence and it can give you a good amount of fear. Believe it or not, not all fear is bad. Fear can make you do things that you normally wouldn’t do, and that can open up a world of opportunities if you do the right thing.
  5. It is so important to have an outlet in times of stress because it can keep you busy and keep your mind off of the problem. Find something that you love to do, and do it. Whether it’s drawing, playing music, writing, reading, cleaning, whatever it is, do it so you stay happy.
  6. In difficult times, helping other people might just be one of the most therapeutic things to do. I don’t know what it is about it, but knowing that you are doing something good for people less fortunate than you is energizing. Help other people in any way you can, don’t overthink it.
  7. Trying to understand why things happen is a waste of time because no one can really know. Whether you believe in fate, God, or some other higher power, the things that happen in our lives are hard to understand, so we just have to do our best to keep moving forward through the rough time.
  8. Time does heal, but for somethings, it takes longer for the wounds to heal. Sometimes wounds never fully heal, they just start to feel dull until they’re opened again. With the right mindset and the right support system, wounds can heal quicker and stronger.
